Acupuncture is the practice of penetrating the skin with thin, solid, metallic needles which are then activated through gentle and specific movements of the practitioner’s hands or with electrical stimulation.

Acupuncture is part of the ancient practice of Traditional Chinese medicine. Traditional Chinese medicine practitioners believe the human body has more than 2,000 acupuncture points connected by pathways or meridians. These pathways create an energy flow (Qi, pronounced “chee”) through the body that is responsible for overall health. Disruption of the energy flow can cause disease. By applying acupuncture to certain points, it is thought to improve the flow of Qi, thereby improving health, boost the immune system, improve the body’s functions.

Studies have shown that acupuncture is effective for a variety of conditions.

Acupuncture is effective for the treatment of chronic pain, it has proven to be helpful in combating neck, shoulder and back pain, headaches and migraines.

Aside from being an excellent treatment option for pain, acupuncture may also be helpful in treating mental ailments, relief of body tension, sleep disorders, and anxiety disorders, it has also demonstrated to be a potential treatment for fibromyalgia patients.

Acupuncture has also shown tremendous promise in the treatment of various other conditions, like Increased fertility, reduction Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), Anxiety Disorder, weight loss, stroke recovery, Various Allergy treatments.

What to expect?

An acupuncturist will examine a person and assess their condition, insert one or more thin, sterile needles, and offer advice.

Individuals will typically sit or lie down during the procedure. The acupuncturist will use single-use, disposable, sterile needles. People may feel a very brief stinging or tingling sensation upon needle insertion.

The number of treatments a person will need depends on their individual case. Someone with a chronic condition may need one or  two treatments per week  over several months.
